Ruby is a 55-foot Sea Ray Sundancer 550 from 2001, an express motor yacht for groups of up to 18 on a day out of Marina Vallarta, suited to birthdays, bachelor parties, family reunions and corporate events. She can also board at Marina Riviera Nayarit in La Cruz or at Marina Nuevo Vallarta.

The Sundancer keeps the day on one open deck: a cockpit of cushioned settees behind the helm, sun pads across the bow, and a swim platform at the stern for getting in the water. Below, a saloon with a curved sofa and a table sits beside the galley, with three cabins and two bathrooms forward of it.

A captain and a deck hand run the charter. A floating mat, two paddleboards and snorkel gear are aboard, with water, soft drinks and fresh fruit included and a sound system for the music. An open bar can be added by the hour, and a chef can be booked.

What stands out is how much of her is open deck: the cockpit and the bow sun pads hold the whole group, in the sun or in the shade.

The Sundancer 550 is an express cruiser: the day happens on one open deck, with the cabins below it. In the cockpit, two L-shaped settees face each other behind the helm console, and the builder made them fold flat at the push of a button into one wide sun pad. Forward, sun pads cover the foredeck, and aft, the swim platform sits just above the water. A fiberglass hardtop shades the cockpit, with a wet bar, sink and cooler to port and a table that lowers between the settees.

Down the companionway is the saloon, finished in high-gloss cherry: a long curved sofa to port, the galley to starboard, and a table between them under a round skylight. On this boat the cockpit has a teak-look floor and quilted cream seating, and a Bimini can be set over the bow.
