About Los Corrales
A fishing village past the cape
Los Corrales is a small fishing village in the municipality of Cabo Corrientes, Jalisco, out toward the cape that closes Banderas Bay to the southwest. It sits just around that cape, on the open Pacific side rather than inside the bay. Mexico's national statistics office counts 219 people living here. The village can be reached by boat; the only other way in is a long trip overland followed by a hike.
Getting there by yacht
Measured in a straight line from the village, Marina Riviera Nayarit at La Cruz is about 26 nautical miles away, Marina Nuevo Vallarta about 27, and both Marina Vallarta and Opequimar about 28. Following the southern shore and rounding the cape adds some distance to those figures. At 20 knots the run from Marina Vallarta takes around an hour and a half; a sailing yacht making 8 knots needs three and a half hours or more each way. Yelapa, on the bay's southern shore, lies about 13 nautical miles from the village in a straight line, so the two can share a route. That makes Los Corrales a long day out, and it fits better into a trip of two or more days that carries on down the coast toward Tehuamixtle.
On shore
The village is small, with a pier and a restaurant by the water. Oysters are what Los Corrales is known for. Visitors also speak well of the sunset here, if the plan allows a late start home.
What to know
The run home is long whichever marina you started from, so bring what the boat needs for the day and plan the return with the light in mind. We'll confirm the landing and the restaurant's hours with the captain when you book.
